65 hurt as villagers clash in Kushtia, B'baria


At least 65 people were injured as villagers clashed in Kushtia and Brahmanbaris on Tuesday.

Our Kushtia Correspondent reports: At least 40 people including five women were injured in a clash over fishing in a government waterbody at Hosanabad village in Daulatpur upazila on Tuesday.

Police said the clash took place between people belonging to Mollah group and Sardar group in the village, who are rivals for long over influence in the area.

The clash ensued when some persons belonging to Sardar group resisted some people from fishing in the water body at about 9 am.

The clash continued for several hours till police on information rushed there and controlled the violence.

Twenty-three of the injured including five women have been admitted to the local health complex and at Kushtia General Hospital.

Additional police have been deployed in the area.

Two separate cases were filed by the rival groups.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspon-dent Reports: At least 25 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over a theft incident at Taragon village in Akhaura upazila.

Three of the injured were admitted to Akaura health complex white the rest were treated there and at some private clinics.

On information, police went there and quelled the clash.
