Kapali comes in Bashar out of action again

Wicket-keeper Khaled Mashud will lead Bangladesh in the third and final one-day international against New Zealand tomorrow after captain Habibul Bashar was forced to pull out of that game because of an injury to his left toe.

Bashar, who only returned to action last week after recovering from an injury to his right thumb for which he needed a surgery, was hit on the toe off the third delivery he faced from New Zealand paceman James Franklyn in the second ODI in Dhaka yesterday. He batted with a runner for nine more balls before being cleaned up by the same bowler for a duck.

The 31-year-old was taken to a clinic for tests and X-ray revealed a hairline fracture on the toe which might keep him out of cricket for atleast three weeks.

"The X-ray report showed a hairline fracture and doctors have advised him to take minimum two week's rest. His left foot will be put in a cast tomorrow," informed team manager MA Latif Khan.

The Bangladesh selectors have named Alok Kapali as Bashar's replacement in the 13-man squad for the third match. The other 12 remain the same.

Bashar's 22 was the top score in Bangladesh's 86 in the opening game in Chittagong which was the right-hander's first match in two months.
