'Jamaat against application of force on any community'

Jamaat-e-Islami chief Matiur Rahman Nizami yesterday said his party does not support the application of force on any religious community and the government would take action against those who would do it.

He made the remarks responding to a query about the anti-Ahmadiyya agitation at an Iftar party hosted for the members of the Overseas Correspondents Association Bangladesh (OCAB) at the Jamaat central office.

Nizami, however, said those who do not accept Hazrat Muhammad (SM) as the last prophet and believe that another prophet would descend do not belong to the Muslim Ummah.

About the demand for declaring the Ahmadiyya non-Muslim, he said they could raise their demand in a non-violent way, avoiding the chaotic course. And the government would take the decision considering the condition and perspective prevailing in the country, he added.
