Nat'l swimming begins today without women participants

Women swimmers are not taking part in the Keya Cosmetics Eighth National Long-Distance Swimming Championship beginning today on the Dakatia river in Chandpur in the wake of militant's threat.Bangladesh Swimming Federation yesterday postponed the only women's event in the face of 'Anti-Islam Activities Prevent Committee's (AIAPC) threat. Chandpur District Commi-ssioner Taherul Islam told the AIAPC leaders, who submitted a memorandum to him, that State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman ordered to postpone the event. Fifteen AIAPC leaders including Jamaat-e-Islami district committee General Secretary Saleh announced militant action to resist the event at any cost.
