Militant Threat
Nat'l swimming begins today without women participants

Women swimmers are not taking part in the Keya Cosmetics Eighth National Long-Distance Swimming Championship beginning today on the Dakatia river in Chandpur in the wake of militant's threat.

Bangladesh Swimming Federation yesterday postponed the only women's event in the face of 'Anti-Islam Activities Prevent Committee's (AIAPC) threat.

Chandpur District Commi-ssioner Taherul Islam told the AIAPC leaders, who submitted a memorandum to him, that State Minister for Youth and Sports Fazlur Rahman ordered to postpone the event.

Fifteen AIAPC leaders including Jamaat-e-Islami district committee General Secretary Saleh announced militant action to resist the event at any cost.
