Five-day software exposition ends

Curtain fell on the annual software exposition styled Softexpo 2004 yesterday, which witnessed a huge turnout of visitors.Organisers said more than 50,000 people visited the five-day fair taking keen interest in products. Talking to The Daily Star, TIM Nurul Kabir, vice-president of Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (Basis), said, "The goal has been achieved as the aim of the fair was to create awareness among locals. "And the turnout of such a huge number of people proves that the software sector has good potential in future." A total of 120 ICT companies including 16 reputed Danish software companies participated in the fair showcasing software featuring e-commerce, m-commerce, telecommunication, Internet, multimedia and animation. The theme of the third edition of the exposition held at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka was 'Towards ICT driven Bangladesh'. Besides, IT service providers, software development companies also attracted the visitors. M Rehan, an official of TechnoVista, said visitors' response is well beyond expectation. "Especially business people and students are making queries about our products and many companies showed interest in the software we have on display." Sales Manager of the company said the fair has given them a chance to interact directly with the users of the website. Tahsin Syeda, a student of International Islamic University, Chittagong, said the software developed by computer science departments of different private university were praiseworthy. "I found some new software which will be helpful for physicians," said an associate professor of radiology department of a medical university. "As my children pass their leisure time playing games on computers, I came here to know about the new games," said Noor Jahan, mother of two child aged seven and five years. During the fair 10 seminars were organised to help local entrepreneurs, students and users to improve their IT knowledge.
