Case against BMA leaders dismissed

The case filed against president, secretary general and 41 other office-bearers of Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) for embezzlement of Tk 6.20 crore from the public fund was dismissed yesterday.Metropolitan Magistrate AJM Abdullahhel Baki passed the order as it was based on the civil nature. Advocate Gazi Rabiul Islam Sagor of 41/42 Court House Street at Kotwali in the city on Sunday filed the case with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka. The case included the names of President Prof Dr MA Hadi, Secretary General Dr AZM Zahid, seven vice-presidents, treasurer, joint secretary, organising secretary, science affairs secretary, office secretary, publication and publishing secretary, cultural and social welfare secretary and its 27 members. In his complaint, Sagor mentioned that the BMA was not registered from the Registration of Joint Stock Company. But its leaders and others illegally possessed public land at 15/2 Topkhana Road at Ramna area for its central office and built a building on it without approval of the Rajuk for its business. Moreover, the accused received Tk 6,20,56,608 as donation from the public fund on different dates and misappropriated the amount, the complaint added.
