BAPS to launch awareness campaign on Aids

Bangladesh Aids Prevention Society (BAPS), a non-government organisation, will launch a campaign to create awareness among the people about Aids.Under the programme, the society will start working on creating awareness among the high risk groups like youth and sex workers to prevent Aids, said ASM Akbar, advisor of BAPS while addressing a press conference in the city yesterday. He said the society has already implemented an awareness programme on Aids among the hotel-based sex workers. "As hotel-based sex workers are one of the prime sources for spreading Aids, we concentrated our campaign on them so that they could take preventive measure while having sex," said Akbar. He said the society would also launch an awareness campaign among the hotel owners and staffs so that they could play their role in combating Aids. BAPS will hold a rally and discussion in the city to mark the World Aids day tomorrow. After the press conference, Shah Ataf Hossain, managing director of Bangla-German Latex Company Ltd, introduced a new brand of condom titled 'Freedom condom'. He said the people should be careful while using condoms as there are some condoms in the market which are harmful to health.
