Move to check erosion at Kuakata beach
Tk 28.75 cr BWDB project proposal awaits ministry's approval

A Tk 28.75 crore project proposal aiming at protecting Kuakata sea beach from erosion was sent to Water Resources Ministry for approval on November 20.

Kalapara office of the Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) sent the proposal. The project includes four-kilometre embankment to be built with CC blocks.

BWDB Executive Engineer Abdul Mazid Mollah said to this correspondent work on the project will begin just after its approval. According to local people, erosion turned serious at the sea beach for the last six years. One-third of coconut garden and other eye soothing area were devoured by sea.

Meanwhile, the bio-gas plant-cum-rest house of the Local Government Engineering Depart-ment (LGED), telephone exchange and other government property face extinction threat.

Local people and tourists have urged the authorities concerned to protect the sea beach from erosion without further delay.
