3rd Int'l Festival of Photography begins in city


The third International Festival of Photography, Asia 2004 Chobi Mela 111, began amid much festivity in the city yesterday.

A colorful inaugural function was held at the Alliance Française gallery on this occasion.

The festival would provide tremendous opportunity for people to know the present trend of photography in Asia as well as other parts of the world, said the speakers while addressing the inaugural ceremony.

Presided over by festival director Shahidul Alam, the opening ceremony was attended by noted photographer Pedro Meyer of Mexico, TareK Al-Ghoussain of the United Arab Emirates and Geerte Wachter of the Netherlands.

Four legendary Bangladeshi photographers Golam Kashem Daddy, Manzoor Alalm Beg, Amanul Haque and Shamsul Alam Almazi were honored by Lifetime Achievement Award at the inaugural function.

A total of 1068 photographs from 17 countries are being exhibited in the festival.

The exhibitions are being held at seven venues Alliance Française, Goethe Institut, British Council, Russian Cultural Centre, Muldhara International Centre, Drik Gallery and Abahani ground.
