2 accomplices of Kala Jahangir arrested in Khulna


Police arrested two accomplices of most wanted criminal Kala Jahangir yesterday from the office of the Commissioner of Income Taxes at Boyra in the city.

Acting on a tip-off, police rushed to the spot and arrested Kabir Hossain,26, and Julhas Khan,30, when they went to realise Tk 5 lakh in toll from Commissioner Md Shajahan Mia, Additional Commissioner Chinmony Prashun Biswas and Joint Commissioner of Income Taxes Prashanta Kumar Das.

Sonadanga thana OC Abbasuddin said that Kala Jahangir had sent Kabir and Julhas to Khulna from Dhaka for realising Tk 2 lakh from the Commissioner, Tk 2 lakh from Additional Commissioner and Tk one lakh from the joint commissioner as tolls.

Kala Jahangir threatened the officials with death over cell phone from Dhaka in case of any failure to pay tolls in full. He demanded Tk one crore from them. Later, the figure was reduced to Tk 5 lakh after a negotiation over cell phone, he added.

Kabir and Julhas were being interrogated by the senior police officials at the KMP headquarters till writing of the report.

A case was filed with Sonadanga thana.

Kabir is son of one Musa Hossain of East Raipura and Julhas is son of Mangol Khan of Niklar Char of Dhaka. They collect tolls from different persons across the country for Kala Jahangir, police said.
