AFP, Sao Paulo
The mother of Brazil's latest super star footballer Robinho was freed Friday by gunmen who kidnapped her five weeks ago. Marina Silva de Souza was unharmed when she was released by her captors, police said. She was kidnapped the day after media reports said Robinho's club Santos had agreed a 12 million dollar deal with Real Madrid. The 20-year-old, who is under contract with Brazilian first division side Santos, the club who discovered Pele, until 2008, was expected to join the Spanish giants next July. English Premiership leaders Chelsea have also been chasing the player.
