Golapjan
Golapjan hinges on the tragic biography of a Dhakaiya woman Golapjan. Written and directed by SM Solaiman, the play Golapjan presents the change in the traditional lifestyle of Dhakaiyas with the advancement of technology.A change has been observed in the traditional Dhakaiya culture from last few decades. The traditional carts have been replaced by rickshaws and then three wheelers; ghughni, bakharkhani by snacks and chocolate. As a result, the Dhakaiya people are losing their traditional trades as well as their typical lifestyle. However, they were the original city dwellers. In Golapjan, Solaiman has included some traditional Dhakaiya sports such as Hakrain (kite fighting), cart culture and others. For the dialogue of the play, he has successfully used typical Dhakaiya language (a blend of Bangla and Urdu). Theatre Art Unit's weeklong drama festival begins today with the staging of Golapjan at the newly opened National Theatre Stage at Shilpakala Academy at 6:30 p.m. Kamaluddin Kabir is the set designer while Thandu Raihan is the light designer of the play. Rokeya Rafiq Baby performs as a central figure in the play.
