Moreover, a deputy inspector general (DIG) was made additional inspector general of police and three additional DIGs were made DIG.

Sources in the Police Headquarters said additional IGP Ali Imam Chowdhury and DIGs Kazi Bazlur Rahman, Lutfor Rahman, Golam Mostafa and Mohammad Hanif were removed from office.

DIG Shahidullah was made additional IG.

The acting commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP), Additional DIG Amjad Hossain, was elevated to DIG and appointed as CMP Commissioner. Additional DIG Javed Patwari of Rangpur Police Training College was promoted to DIG and made Commissioner of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police.

Additional DIG Delwar Hossain of Detective Training College was elevated to DIG and transferred to the Police Headquarters.

Talking to The Daily Star last night, Inspector General of Police Ashraful Huda admitted the reshuffle.

"It is quite normal that a reshuffle would take place after a change has been made at the top. It has been done to ensure that the department serves the people better," he reasoned.

Huda, formerly the commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, took over on December 15 after the government removed IG Shahudul Haque following his conviction for contempt of court.
