Cold transfers finish

The four-day inter-club footballers' transfers ended yesterday without the usual enthusiasm associated with the event ahead of the domestic season.On the final day, National and Premier League champions Brothers Union and Premier League runners-up Sheikh Russel Krira Chakra officially registered their recruits for the coming season. Brothers, who have suffered a great loss after losing a number of national booters to Mohammedan and Muktijoddha, retained second choice goalkeeper Mohammed Ali, defenders Mohammad Sujan, Jahangir, Montu and Liton Khan, midfielders Monwar, Parvez Babu, Rikto, Abul and Liton and forwards Topu, Emily and Toriq. The players to officially sign for the Gopibagh outfit at the Metropolis Football League Committee yesterday were defenders Jewel Rana -- the ex-national captain -- and Shuvra from Mohammedan, former national left-back Masud Rana, Siraji, midfielder Pranotosh and striker Khokon from Abahani and Shahin from Wanderers. They also signed young goalkeepers Tareq, Dhonu and Rafiq. Shiekh Russel also lost most of their key players who helped them finish runners-up on Premiership debut and depended on young faces this time under new coach Abu Yusuf. They signed 17 new booters and retained five players. Their major signings were Victoria pair Jet and Sharif, Arambagh medio Tanvir, Dhanmondi's youngster Maruf, Abahani's Nayan, Mohammedan's Anwar and Wanderers duo Yusuf and Monir. This was the first time the Bangladesh Football Federation introduced the token system and 177 tokens were collected by players before the transfers began. A total of 219 footballers took part in the first three days of the bourse.
