Fresh autopsy on Tania's body

Doctors yesterday carried out a fresh post-mortem on the body of a housewife who allegedly committed suicide at Sutrapur in the city over a month ago.

Rumana Akhtar Tania, 24, wife of Manir Hossain, was found hanging from the ceiling at her husband's home on November 20.

Manir rushed Tania, daughter of real estate businessman MA Bari Chowdhury, to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital at 6:30am where the doctors declared her dead.

The report of the forensic department of the hospital showed that Tania committed suicide, but her elder brother Rafiquzzaman Jewel rejected the report and appealed to the court for a further post-mortem.

He also filed a murder case with Sutrapur Police Station against her in-laws.

Receiving a court order, Kotowali police exhumed the body on December 28 from Azimpur Graveyard.

A five-member team, headed by Assistant Professor Fazlul Karim of Forensic and Medicine department of the DMCH, performed the autopsy yesterday.
