'Take steps for trial of war criminals'

Speakers at a condolence meeting yesterday urged all progressive forces to take necessary steps for the trial of the war criminals of 1971.

They said the issue must be raised both at national and international level to bring the collaborators of Pakistani army to justice

The meeting was organised by Ekatturer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee in the city yesterday to condole the death of Abdul Hakim Piyal, former organising secretary of the committee.

Piyal was killed in a road accident on November 11 when the members of the committee were going to help the people hard-hit by Monga, a famine-like situation in north-western region of the country.

Praying for the salvation of the departed soul, Prof Borhanuddin Khan Jahangir, member of the advisory body, said only the trial of the war criminals can help in removing crimes from the society.

Committee General Secretary Kazi Mukul, Shaheedjaya Salma Haq, Fazlur Rahman, Abul Hossain Khokan, Dowlat Ara Mannan and Abu Sayeed also spoke.
