New school to be set up for the dumb in city

The Prime Minister's Political Secretary Harris Chowdhury yesterday said the government would continue its efforts to bring physically challenged people into the mainstream of society.

Harris said that another new high school for the dumb would be set up in the city on two bighas of land.

Now there is only one secondary level high school in Bijoy Nagar in Dhaka for about 12 lakh deaf and dumb across the country.

Harris, also president of Jatiya Badhir (Dumb) Sangshta, said the deaf and dumb would not be left behind in the society -- one day they would be in the forefront.

He was speaking at a function at the Badhir Bhaban in the city.
