The Supreme Court (SC) yesterday refrained from passing any order on the government move against a High Court (HC) stay on the appointment of Reza-e-Rabbi as secretary to the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).Additional Attorney General A J Mohammad Ali approached Chamber Judge Amirul Kabir Chowdhury of the SC with a government plea for an order. But the judge did not pass any order on the petition. Talking to reporters later, Ali said the chamber judge asked him to file a regular leave petition with the SC. The HC on Sunday stayed the appointment of Reza and issued a rule upon the government to explain in three weeks why the appointment should not be declared illegal. The stay will be in force till disposal of the matter. After his appointment on December 22, Reza submitted his joining letter but the ACC did not accept it. ACC Director General (DG) Maj Gen. (Retd) MA Matin, who also served as DG of the now defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption, is acting as ACC secretary in addition to his normal duties on instructions from ACC Chairman Justice Sultan Hossain Khan. Matin yesterday expressed inability to continue to work as the DG and acting secretary of the ACC.
