The big guns of the Green Delta Premier Cricket League all en-joyed comfortable victories yesterday. Joint leaders Old DOHS posted a comfortable 46-run victory over Orient Sporting Club at BKSP in Savar with Akram Khan leading from the front. The popular Chittagonian's unbeaten half-century helped the newcomers to share top spot with defending champions Victoria Sporting Club on 14 points from eight matches. Elsewhere, promising left-hander Nafees Ahmed continued where he left off in the tour match against Zimbabwe when the 18-year-old left-hander propelled last year's runners-up City Club to a massive 71-run victory over Indira Road KC at the Dhanmondi Cricket Stadium. And in a low-scoring game at the Fatullah Stadium, paceman Mohammad Sharif put in another good performance as Bangladesh Biman inflicted seven-wicket defeat on Agrani Bank. With their sixth wins, both City Club and Biman occupied second position securing 12 points from eight outings. OLD DOHS V ORIENT Despite national discard Al Shahriar failing with 28, star-studded DOHS, put into bat, relied on Akram's 74-ball 52 and a quickfire 31 off 33 balls from another veteran Enamul Hoque to build a fighting total of 197-6. Although Akram's nephew Tamim Iqbal batted brilliantly to score a breezy 43 for Orient, they were still bundled out for 151 in 38.4 overs. The left-handed opener Tamim hammered six boundaries off 45 deliveries. DOHS' lanky spinner Sabbir Khan claimed three for 38 in 10 overs while his young left-arm partner Nadif Chowdhury also bagged three wickets giving away 24 runs. CITY CLUB V INDIRA ROAD Nafees Ahmed and Mehrab Hossain (jr) guided City to 231 for eight after being asked to bat. In-form Nafees, who cracked a brilliant 97 against Zimbabwe in the drawn three-day match in Chittagong, smashed 70 off 91 that included eight boundaries and an over-boundary. The City innings suffered a mini-collapse when Tushar Imran and captain Khaled Mahmud fell for ducks. But number seven Mehrab came to the rescue with a cameo 77-ball 58. Mahbub Alam and Sajidul Islam took two wickets each. Indira Road's innings never got going after slumping to 52-5 and eventually they were all out for 160 in 45.3 overs. Palash Ahmed (34) and Mahbub Alam (30) were the top scorers. Mahmud, Tareq Aziz Khan, Jamal Babu and Mahmud Ullah claimed two wickets each. BIMAN V AGRANI Right-arm pacer Mohammed Sharif grabbed four wickets in nine overs as the national flag-carrier dismissed the bankers for 114 in 44.5 overs. Iqbal Sheikh scored highest 34 off 63 balls. Returning to competitive cricket after a two-year injury break, Sharif was supported by left-arm spinner Mosharaf Hossain (two for 22). All-rounder Mushfiqur Rahman, ignored for the first Test in Chittagong against Zimbabwe on Thursday, made an unbeaten 40 off 64 balls as Biman reached the target in 33.2 overs.
