Prof Yunus Murder
Four arrestees challenge remand prayer
Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi
Four Rajshahi University (RU) students, arrested in connection with Prof Yunus murder case, yesterday filed a criminal appeal with a judge's court challenging the prayer for their remand for the second time.In the appeal filed with the District and Sessions Judge's Court, they also claimed that they were not involved in the murder, but police were harassing them in the name of remand. The scheduled hearing on the second remand prayer could not be held at a metropolitan magistrate's court as the judge's court directed the lower court to send case documents. The judge's court, however, has fixed January 11 for the hearing on the issue. On December 27, Shibir leader Sirajus Salekeen, Jubo and Chhatra Moitree activists Rummon, Monirul and Bachchu were taken on a four-day remand a day after their arrest. Police sought a fresh five-day remand for them on January 1.
