Dhaka's contribution to relief operations

Bangladesh has made quite a significant contribution to international relief effort for Asian Tsunami disaster victims. Two BAF C130 planeloads of relief materials have been despatched to Sri Lanka and the Maldives along with three large medical teams. In addition, two Bangladesh Navy ships loaded with about 100 tons of relief supplies have also been sent to Sri Lanka. One Airforce helicopter has been sent to Sri Lanka to assist in the relief effort and another one is on its way to the Maldives. This is a significant participation by any measure. But it seems the international media is oblivious of our role and the local media is down-playing its importance. I think we should take lessons from the UK and other countries and highlight our role. We must demonstrate that Bangladesh does not only accept aid, it is also quick in providing the same when the need arises.
