Pirates loot 5 trawlers on Meghna estuary


Armed pirates hijacked five fishing trawlers with fishes and goods worth about Tk 20 lakh from the Meghna estuary near Ramnewaz police camp in Manpura upazila in Bhola on Monday.

The pirates belong to notorious Alauddin Bahini, it was gathered from some of the victimised fishermen.

The pirated dropped the fishermen on a shoal near Manpura coast and decamped with the trawlers.

The victims said, before the incident, the pirates had demanded Tk one lakh toll on mobile phone no. 0171-542721.

The Officer-in-Charge of Manpura police station, when contacted, said neither the piracies could be caught nor the looted goods recovered.
