'Protect Foy's Lake from pollution'

Environmentalists at a rally yesterday demanded steps to protect the Foy's Lake from pollution.

They called for not allowing the engine-run boats to ply in the Foy's Lake in Chittagong as they are polluting the water.

A number of environmental organisations, including Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (Bapa), organised the rally at Shahbagh in the city.

The speakers urged the authorities to remove all engine-run boats from the lake before the Eid-ul-Azha festival.

Presided over by Bapa Joint Secretary Mihir Chowdhury, the rally was also addressed by students of Chittagong University.
