Mother, son missing in trawler capsize, road mishaps kill 3


Three people were killed and 15 injured in accidents in Brahmanbaria and Patuakhali yesterday and in two previous days.

In another incident in Brahmanbaria, a mother and her minor son are missing after their trawler sank in the Meghna river.

Our Brahmanbaria Correspondent reports: Two persons were killed and five injured critically when a tractor loaded with rods fell into a roadside ditch in a road at Bhabanipur on the Ashuganj-Talshahar Road in Ashuganj upazila on Monday.

One of the dead was identified as Md Atikul Islam, 29, son of Md Nurul Islam of Naughat village in Ashuganj.

The five injured persons were taken to the local health complex and then sent to Dhaka. Those who died and injured had boarded the tractor as passengers. The driver escaped.

In another incident in the district, a mother and her son are missing when two trawlers collided on the Meghna river near Hossain Shah Ghat in Joykalipur village in Bancharampur upazila on Tuesday.

The persons missing are Farhin Akter, 30, and her son Md Suman, police said. They were among over 30 people boarding the trawler. All were rescued by other boats but the mother and her son are missing as the trawler sank.

Our Patuakhali Correspondent reports: One person was killed and 10 others were injured, seven of them seriously, in a road accident on the Patuakhali-Kuakata Road yesterday.

The dead is Nizam Gharami, 40, son of Joynal Gharmai of Garabunia village in the Sadar upazila.

The injured persons are Shah Alam, 35, Shahidul, 19, of Kalikapur, Babul, 22, of Ballavpur, Abdul Halim, 25, of Auliapur, Abul Basar, 25, of Madarbunia village in the Sadar upazila and Sabuj, 20 of Mazidbaria village in Mirjaganj upazila.

The accident occurred when a truck carrying construction goods hit three riskaws in Hatalia area at about 8.30 am on the spot, according to police, hospital and local sources. Nizam, Imam of a local mosque died on the spot.
