An appeal to political parties

In Bangladesh, winter is a very suitable season for agitation, procession, hartal and other political programmes. This season of the year is free from usual rain and storms, sun is mild and the weather cool and conducive to carrying on agitation, protest and hartal programmes without getting scorched. Our political parties avail this opportunity as much as they can and embark upon various programmes that disrupt usual operation and activities of our economy, education, social life etc. During this period of the year another important event of our national life occurs, which is annual exam of our future generation in their respective schools and colleges. It is observed that every year due to various programmes of political parties exams in schools, colleges and even in universities are being disrupted, which cause irreparable damage to the academic lives of our children, who are considered the future of the nation. It appears from media reports that various political parties and many other related concerns have a lot of political programmes, including hartal during the month of January.

All concerned are requested to please note that January is the month of A' Level Exam. Thousands of students from Bangladesh participate in this internationally conducted exam. The exam is held simultaneously throughout the world under some routine. Anyone failing to appear at the exam shall miss the exam for the year and his guardian shall lose a considerable amount of hard-earned money. The exam was scheduled to start on 10 January and continue during the whole month. As per the routine, the exams are conduced on all weekdays excepting Saturdays and Sundays.

Considering the future of thousands of our children, I request all the political parties of the country to please take the above matter into account with due importance while formulating, effecting or enforcing any programme during the month of January.
