Fire at Ctg hide processing factory


A fire ripped through a hide processing factory in the port city yesterday, damaging finished leather, chemicals and machinery.

An electrical short-circuit sparked off the blaze at the factory in Mohora heavy industrial area at around 11.00am, police and fire brigade sources said.

However, there were no reports of casualties as about 25 workers, out of about 250, were working inside the factory. Others were on leave on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

The fire fighters brought the blaze under control after an hour of struggle.

The factory authorities estimated the loss at around Tk 80 lakh. They filed a general diary with Chandgaon Police Station in this connection.
