Next Asia Cup in Pakistan
PCB for changes to tour of India
Reuters, Karachi
Pakistan have asked India for changes to the proposed itinerary of next month's Test and one-day series in India.Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Khan did not elaborate on the proposed changes to reporters but a source within the PCB said there were concerns over Ahmedabad hosting the second Test. Pakistan are due to tour India from February 25, playing three Tests and five one-day internationals. Ahmedabad, in the state of Gujarat, was the site of some of the worst communal riots in India in 2002. "Playing at Ahmedabad will bring political overtones to the tour," the source said on condition of anonymity. Shaharyar met the representative of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Jagmohan Dalmiya in Dubai on Monday on the sidelines of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting. The other proposed Test venues are Mohali and Bangalore, with the one-dayers at Cochin, Visha-kapatnam, Delhi, Jamshedpur and Kanpur. Meanwhile, Pakistan will host the Asia Cup one-day tournament in late March next year, Shaharyar said on Tuesday. He told this news agency that a decision had been made at Monday's meeting of the ACC. "All the other Test playing nations of the ACC -- India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh -- have confirmed participation in the tournament and we will have some qualifying teams also," the PCB boss confirmed. Pakistan have not hosted any of the previous eight Asia Cup tournaments held since 1984 because of their poor diplomatic relations with neighbours India. Six teams competed in the last Asia Cup, which was held in Sri Lanka last year with the hosts winning the final.
