Teaching English

Reading the excellent article on the teaching of English spelling, I still fear that, if an English teacher is not both skilled and careful, then a lot of class time spent in this way may not only be ineffective but horribly boring for most pupils. It is a job to be done but, surely, please, 'on the backburner'.

Besides, there is evidence that William Shakespeare himself spelt his own name 16 different ways! (But don't say that too loudly in front of the children!)
