Short Takes
Dimple: In the spotlight once again

Time and tide wait for none. So they haven't for Dimple Kapadia, the screen diva of the 1970s who turned into a heartthrob of Bollywood after her pairing with Rishi Kapoor in the super-hit movie Bobby.

Today, Dimple Kapadia is a grandmother and spends most of her time with her children and grandchildren.

But that has not stopped her and Rishi Kapoor from coming together again on the screen after nearly three decades for the forthcoming Hindi film Pal Tham Gaya (The Moment has Stopped) whose shooting has just been wrapped up..

When Dimple Kapadia appeared in Bobby in 1973 she was just 15. In the forthcoming movie, Rishi Kapoor and her don the roles of an aging couple, who find themselves at home in each other's company. However, her daughter, played by Soha Ali Khan, objects to their affair.

Bobby was not the only film in which Dimple and Rishi were paired. The two were featured in Sagar which also has Kamal Hasan.

But the passage of time has not hit Dimple's career. In the last seven years she has acted in films like Mrinal Sen's Antareen, playing the role of an urban woman neglected by her busy husband and longing for a relationship with another man. Then there are other films such as Dil Chahata Hai in which she is the object of passion of a young boy. She also did Kalpana Lajmi's Rudaali and Lekin.

Two more films featuring Dimple Kapadia are in the cans, including Being Cyrus which also stars Naseeruddin Shah and Saif Ali Khan.

Dimple said in a recent interview, "There are not many roles of substance in keeping with my age in the present film industry."

Will Pal Tham Gaya be able to charm the audience like Bobby? Times are different and only the future will tell. But Dimple is not worried about the box office success of her films now and is content with the way her film career has shaped up.
