Jhenidah 'crossfire' kills 8 in 42 days


Eight alleged outlaws were killed in 'crossfire' with police in Jhenidah district from January 11 to February 22 this year, according to official sources and newspaper reports.

Though law enforcers claimed that the deaths were during exchange of fire with outlaws and recovery of arms, other sources alleged that those were custodial deaths.

The latest victim of such 'crossfire' is 'regional leader' of Biplabi-Communist Party (BCP) Moazzem Ali alias Kasai Moazzem of Badpukuria village in Jhenidah Sadar upazila. He was killed in a field in Dakhalpur village in Harina-kundu upazila in the early hours of February 22.

'Regional leader' of Janajuddho faction of Purba Banglar Communist Party (PBCP) Shajahan was killed in an encounter with police on February 9 at Laxmipur village in Kotchandpur upazila.
