Sexual Harassment Case
Court summons two cops

A Dhaka court has issued summons to two policemen of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) to appear in the court on March 12 in connection with a sexual harassment case.

The accused are Shah Mohammad Saiful Alam alias Liton, police sergeant (traffic) of Mohammadpur zone, DMP, and Rabiul Islam, sub-inspector of Mirpur Police.

Judge Mohammad Shamsul Arefin of the Fifth Special Tribunal for Prevention of Woman and Children Repression gave the order on Saturday following a petition filed by a woman accusing the two policemen of sexual harassment.

In a case filed on August 16, 2003, Shahida Begum of Baktarkandi at Gazaria, Munshiganj, complained that the two policemen took her and her husband Kamruzzaman to a house at Mirpur at about 9:00pm on September 11, 2002 and confined them to a room. Later, the accused kept her husband confined to another room, and made an attempt to harass her sexually after undressing her.
