Malaysian Crackdown
8 Bangladeshis rounded up

Eight Bangladeshi nationals were arrested in the nationwide 'Ops Tegas' crackdown on illegal immigrants by the Malaysian government.

Malaysian news agency Bernama from Putrajaya yesterday reported 563 foreigners including the eight Bangladeshis were arrested in the crackdown.

However, detailed identities of the Bangladeshis could not be known immediately.

State Minister for Expatriates Welfare and Overseas Employment Major (retd) M Quamrul Islam said, "We're not responsible for those who didn't return home following the amnesty announced by the Malaysian government."

"We'll make arrangements to send back 8,000 Bangladeshi workers, who returned home following the amnesty announcement," he added.
