CNG driver strangled, two stabbed in city


Unidentified criminals strangled a CNG auto-rickshaw driver and snatched his vehicle while muggers stabbed a transport worker and another kitchen market trader in the city yesterday.

Badda police retrieved the body of Khalilur Rahman, 30, a CNG driver from a sewer at Nikunja 2 at about 10:30am. Marks of strangle were found on his nose and head.

Owner of the auto-rickshaw, Mostafizur Rahman, later identified the victim at the morgue of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) after police had sent the body there for autopsy.

At Mirpur, muggers stabbed Shariful Islam, 30, an employee of Unique Paribahan of Gabtoli, at about 6:00am while he was on his way to work from North Baghbari.

The criminals snatched Tk 2,000 from him. Locals rushed Shariful to DMCH with two stab wounds in the abdomen.

Another group of muggers stabbed Alam Chan, 25, a vegetable vendor at Kawran Bazar, at about 7:00am.

A gang of four encircled Alam when he was coming towards Kawranbazar by rickshaw from his house at Manda in Sabujbagh and snatched Tk 1,500 from him. As he shouted for help, the muggers stabbed him in the abdomen.
