Tax evasion: Onion trucks seized at Bhomra

Two trucks carrying Indian onions weighing 15,334-kilogram were seized by the BDR on Sunday. The onions were imported allegedly by evading tax. According to sources in Bhomra Land Port, M/s Raj Enterprise of Farashganj, Dhaka imported the onions. The business firm opened a Letter of Credit (LC) to import 14,560-kilogram of onions. But the firm imported an additional 774-kilogram of onion. On suspicion, the BDR team intercepted the loaded trucks and seized the onions. Later, the onions were deposited to the Customs godown on Monday.
