In a message to Prime Minister Khaleda Zia, Rice said, "I wish to extend my condolences to the Government of Bangladesh and the families and friends of the Bangladeshi soldiers who were killed on February 25 while serving with the UN Mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo."

She said this "tragic loss underscores the risks braved by Bangladeshi peacekeepers as they perform their important service. The contribution by Bangladesh to UN peacekeeping opera- tions worldwide is deeply appreciated".
