BCB constitution challenged in HC
UNB, Dhaka
The High Court yesterday issued rule upon the Sports Secretary, National Sports Council (NSC) and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to explain why the BCB constitution-2003 should not be declared illegal. The court ordered them to restrain from acting upon the impugned constitution -- meaning uncertainty of election to BCB that already expired its 4-year term on Thursday. The order came upon a writ filed by three directors of BCB challenging the legality of its constitution-2003. They submitted that the authorities had purportedly replaced the constitution under which they were elected in 2001. The impugned constitution was imposed with a malafide motive of controlling by a vested quarter the cricket of Bangladesh which is gaining attraction in the world cricket. Earlier, on March 1 the Supreme Court stayed the High Court order reinstating the directors of BCB and had ordered the authorities to hold election at the earliest.
