Saudi prince wants to set up hotels


Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal bin Abdul Aziz has expressed his keen desire to set up world-class hotels in Dhaka and Chittagong.

The visiting prince's offer of investment in the hospitality industry came during a meeting with Foreign Minister M Morshed Khan at Hotel Sonargaon yesterday.

"An expert team will come to Bangladesh next month for selecting sites of the hotels," he was quoted as saying.

State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mir Mohammad Nasiruddin, Executive Chairman of the Board of Investment (BoI) Mahmudur Rahman, Prime Minister's Principal Secretary Kamal Siddiqui and Foreign Secretary Shamsher Mobin Chowdhury attended the meeting, which lasted 20 minutes.

Earlier on his arrival, the Saudi Prince made a courtesy call on President. Iajuddin Ahmed at Bangabhaban.

During the meeting, the president sought cooperation of the Saudi government to further increase its investment in Bangladesh. He also urged the Saudi government to recruit more Bangladeshi doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, IT specialists and other professionals.
