Home secy's contract ends today

The government is still undecided about appointing a new secretary for the Ministry of Home Affairs while the contract of the incumbent secretary expires today.However, Prime Minister's Office sources said the appointment of a new home secretary may be made today. Highly placed sources said the government has decided not to further extend the contract of Home Secretary Muhammad Omar Farooq as he was given contract for three consecutive terms. They said that the government is considering names of three to four secretaries for appointment as secretary of the home ministry. Among them are Secretary of the Planning Division Akhter Hossain Khan and Secretary of the Ministry of Communications Shafiqul Islam. Shafiqul Islam is currently serving on contract.
