Suspension order on export-import at Mongla EPZ withdrawn

Customs Department yesterday withdrew the suspension order on export-import business at Mongla Export Processing Zone (EPZ).General Manager of Mongla EPZ AMM Shamsuddin Chowdhury told the news agency that a letter from the customs withdrawing the suspension order, which was imposed on March 8, reached here yesterday. Joint commissioner of customs house in Khulna issued the letter Monday that said, "Upon verbal assurances from companies to assist the 3-member inquiry team to probe the allegation of tax evading, the restriction was withdrawn allowing normal import-export business at the EPZ." Earlier, Khulna customs house issued the suspension order on all export-import activities in the EPZ following allegations brought against two local companies of tax dodging. AKM Nuruzzaman, joint commissioner, customs house in Khulna, led the three-member team to investigate the tax-dodging allegations against the two companies. Now, five foreign, two joint venture and two local companies are operating at the Mongla EPZ.
