IO gives deposition

Mohammad Khalequzzaman, assistant superintendent of police (ASP) of Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the investigation officer (IO) of the Awami League lawmaker Ahsanullah Master murder case, gave his deposition before a court yesterday. Judge Shahed Noor Uddin of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-1 recorded statement of the witness. The court then fixed tomorrow for next hearing of the case. Khaleq will be cross-examined by defence lawyers of the accused. In his deposition, Khaleq told the court that he took over the charge of investigation into the master murder case on May 11 last year. During the investigation, he recorded statements of the complainant and other injured persons. Moreover, he arrested three FIR (First Information Report) named accused and their shelter providers. He also made arrangements to record confessional statement of the arrestee Mahbubur Rahman, the IO added. After the investigation, he pressed charges against Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal leader Nurul Islam Sarker and 29 others on July 10 last year. Earlier, 32 prosecution witnesses, including victim's brother Matiur Rahman and son Zabid Ahsan Sohel, were cross-examined. Twelve of 30 accused in the case, including Nurul Islam Sarker, were present on the dock during the hearing. Of them, Kabir Hossain, Ayub, Pappu Sarker and Al Amin are on bail while Dipu and 17 others are at large. Special Public Prosecutor Abdul Latif Talukder and advocates Sahara Khatun, M Sajwar Hossain, Mohammad Ali and Momtazuddin Mehedi appeared for the state while advocates ABM Sharfuddin Khan Mukul, Jasim Uddin and Emdadul Haq Lal defended the accused.
