Eleven Union Parishad (UP) chairmen of Bagha and Charghat upazilas at a press conference here yesterday brought allegations of nepotism and corruption against ruling party lawmaker from the area, Kabir HossainThe lawmaker ignores them and involves his party men in all development activities and in distribution of government relief and other assistance, they alleged. Kabir Hossain hardly visits the area. They alleged that Kabir Hossain always distributes development works including those under Test Relief under the District Council among his men without informing UP leaders. "He (Kabir) did not attend a single meeting of the thana development coordinator committee since he was elected", said a written statement read out at the press conference held at Barendro Unnayon Forum office. Protesting the lawmaker's activities and alleged corruption, Bagha upazila UP members are not attending the UP Coordinator Committee meeting for two months, they said. The 11 UP leaders said they will stage a token hunger strike and submit a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner if the situation does not improve within a month. But they did not set a date for the programme. The eleven UP chairman are Matiur Rahman from Shardha, Showkot Ali from Bhayalaxmipur, Mustak Ahmed from Yousupur, Fazlul Haque from Charghat, Fakrul Hassan from Pakuriya, Akber Hossain from Monygram, Tojammel from Arani union, Asraf Ali Molin from Bowsha, Faruk Hossain from Bajubagan, Nazrul Islam from Ghargari and Habil Uddin from Nimpara.
