Committees to save youths from drugs soon : Khoka

Committees will be set up at every ward in the city comprising people from all walks of life and irrespective of their party affiliations to save the youths from taking drugs.

This was stated by Dhaka City Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka while speaking as chief guest at a seminar on the 'Role of the Ward Commissioners to Control Narcotics' at Nagar Bhaban yesterday.

Dhaka Ahsania Mission and Pratyasha, an anti-drug organisation, jointly organised the seminar.

The mayor said ward commissioners could play a vital role in eliminating the dens of narcotics in the capital.

He said a large percentage of our youths, who are the backbone of the nation, are becoming addicted to drugs due to frustration and unemployment.

The mayor however warned that stern action would be taken if any DCC staffs are found involved in drug peddling.

Deputy director of the narcotics control department Abu Taleb said due to lack of adequate logistic support, they are unable to control the drug peddlers.

It is also very dangerous to face unscrupulous and armed persons who are involved in the drug business with bare hand, he added.

Presided over by Executive Director of Dhaka Ahsania Mission Kazi Rafiqul Islam, the seminar was attended by Pratyasha Chairperson and Ward Commissioner Liakat Ali.
