Baridhara Double Murder
Ex-teacher of Siddheshwari Girls School on fresh remand

Abul Bashar Miah, arrested in connection with the killings of Siddheshwari Girls High School headmistress Sabera Begum Baby and her daughter Sharmim Alam Shampa, was placed on a one-day fresh remand yesterday.

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) produced Bashar, former teacher of the school, before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court, Dhaka at 1:30pm with a 10-day further remand on completion of a three-day interrogation period.

In the petition, the investigation officer (IO) mentioned that he gathered important information about his involvement in the killings during the last three-day remand. So he needs to be quizzed further to find out the clue about the killings and whereabouts of other killers, the IO said.

CID arrested Bashar from his Gulshan residence on March 12 and he was forwarded to the court seeking a 10-day remand for interrogation.

Sabera and her daughter Shampa were killed at their Baridhara residence on the night of December 16 last year.

Earlier, Jahangir, one of the security guards of Sabera's house, gave a confessional statement to a magistrate on January 2.
