Attack on Manikganj College Teachers
'Bring culprits to justice'

Fourteen teachers of MA Rouf Degree College in Manikganj yesterday demanded security for their life as a gang of hoodlums has launched an attack on them and threatened them with death.

They also demanded punishment to the persons involved in such heinous acts.

The gang, equipped with lethal weapons, went on a rampage on the college campus and beat four teachers and hurled abusive words at two others on March 13 as they protested the principal's involvement in corruption and nepotism, the teachers said at a press conference in the city.

They also alleged that the principal and a member of the governing body of the college hired the goons to carry out the attacks in a bid to cover up the controversial appointment of the principal.

The gang also threatened the teachers with death if any case is filed in this regard, said Abdur Rahim Hossain, a teacher.

The teachers now fear for their lives as they had filed a case with the magistrate's court in Manikganj on March 15.

Teachers Rejaul Alam Khan, Jahidul Islam, Mizanur Rahman, Sheikh Faruk Ahmed, Maruful Haq Siddique and Abdul Motin Biswas were present at the press conference.
