Former MP Wahab removed from Shailkupa party post


After months' of serious in-fighting marked with clash, a rival faction ahas removed former lawmaker Abdul Wahab from the post of Shailkupa upazila BNP president for his alleged 'corruption, tender manipulation and other activities that damaged the party image', party sources said.

Earlier on Friday, they declared Wahab 'unwanted' in Shailkupa in Jhenidah district.

The decision to remove him was taken at a 'close door' emergency meeting of the party unit, held at upazila parishad auditorium on Tuesday held. General secretary of the upazila BNP unit Amzad Hossain called the meeting.

The meeting selected senior vice-president of the thana unit UP Chairman Abul Hossain acting president of the unit.

The district and the central executive committee of BNP have been informed of the decisions in writing, they said.

When contracted over cell phone Wahab asaid, "The process through which they removed me is unconstitutional.

"Approval from 10 union level leaders and the party's district committee is necessary for this.

Party sources said, even at union level, BNP leaders and activist are split into two groups over supremacy in the area.

The rival factions are backed by Municipality Chairman Khalilur Rahman and former lawmaker Abdul Wahab.

The internal feud in the party grew in June last year as two rival factions clashed over establishment supremacy.

At least seven incidents of clash took place between rival groups in last several months, according to party insiders.
