Liberation war martyrs pride of world
NY City Admin Speaker tells discussion on Independence Day


The New York City administration organised a discussion on Wednesday on the occasion of the Independence and National Day of Bangladesh.

Members of the City Council and the Speaker of the City Administration as well as leaders of the Bangladesh community in New York were present at the function held at the auditorium of the City Hall.

Bangladesh Consul General in New York Mohsin Ali Khan also attended the function.

City Administration Speaker Gefford Miller, Councilman James Gennaro, Members Helen Sears and Weprin spoke on the occasion.

Leaders of the Bangladesh community, Mahadeb Sarkar, Mizanur Rahman Milton, Mohammad Aminullah, Nargis Ahmed, Manjur Ahmed Chowdhury, Abu Zafar Mahmud and a large number of expatriate Bangladeshis were present.

Gefford said the heroes who sacrificed their lives in the Liberation War of Bangladesh are not only the pride of a country itself, but also of the world. City Administration organises the discussion to convey the honour of the United States to the achievements of Bangladesh, he said.

Appreciating the progress made in democratic struggle and economic sector of Bangladesh, he said the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Khaleda Zia has attained sustainable progress, which is praiseworthy.

Hailing the expatriate Bangladeshis residing in New York for their active participation in economic and social fields, he said the Bangladeshi community here are contributing greatly both socially and economically.
