Genocide in 1971

The word genocide means mass murder and in 1971 genocide took place in Bangladesh, then East Pakistan. Three million Bengalees were killed by the Pakistani military junta. I cannot understand why the world did not give attention to the brutality of Pakistanis in Bangladesh. Or is it that we Bengalees ourselves are hiding truths about 1971? If that be true, it is a big shame. We should bring out the facts. It is our duty. We should let the world know about it.

I don't find children showing any interest about the liberation war. Most of the time they say that there is no need to learn the history of a country like ours which is corrupt, under-developed and poor. Well, that's not their fault, rather it is the fault of our politicians. Our struggle for independence was a painful one. The genocide was much bigger than those taking place in Vietnam or Rwanda. In Bangladesh Three Million people were killed, 50,000 on the night of 25 March. Possibly, this is the worst genocide since the Second World War.

And as for the Pakis, they should apologise for their misdeeds.
