The High Court Division Bench of Justice Joynul Abedin and Justice Meftah Uddin Chowdhury passed the order after hearing the rule it had earlier issued.

Police arrested Paban on February 28 and he obtained bail from the trial court on March 7. The same day, the government issued a one-month detention order against Paban.

Advocate Khandakar Abdul Hamid Dabliu, elder brother of Paban, filed a writ petition with the High Court challenging the validity of the detention order.

The High Court on March 12 issued a rule upon the government asking it to show cause why the order should not be declared illegal.

The secretary and deputy secretary (security) of the home ministry and the jail superintendent had been made respondents in the case.

Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokan moved for the petitioner and Kamrunnahar Ratna for the government.
