Highway barricaded for UNO's removal

People barricaded the Dhaka-Paturia highway at Tepra bus stand for about one hour and a half yesterday demanding removal of Shibalaya Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mohammod Abu Yusuf for his alleged corruption.

More than 400 vehicles with passengers were stranded on the highway, creating a long jam.

About 1200 people from villages nearby also brought out a broom procession and held rally during the barricade that began at 11:00 am. They also burnt an effigy of the UNO.

Speakers at the rally said they would launch tougher agitation if the UNO is not removed within a week..

On March 31, another rally was held and a procession brought out in Manikganj town demanding the UNO's removal.

On that day, the demonstrators also submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner for his removal.
