Tsunami

Tsunami is a natural phenomenon consisting of a series of waves generated when water in a lake or the sea is rapidly displaced on a massive scale. Nowadays it is a common disaster like earthquake or floods in South-east Asia. It is of course not possible to prevent a tsunami but some particularly tsunami-prone countries have taken a few measures to reduce the damage caused on shore. Japan has implemented an extensive programme of building tsunami walls upto 4.5m high in front of populated coastal areas. But our government has not taken any steps to minimise loss in case of a tsunami strike.

The tsunami that hit our subcontinent on December 26 left a trail of devastation.

So we should remain alert.
